What memoirs have brought to people's lives...

My memoir video; an intimate gift
I first sat down with Bob not knowing where to start or how to begin. With a simple question or nod of encouragement he effortlessly allowed me to open up and express what, in several cases, I didn’t previously recognize that I needed and wanted to say.  The results were real and genuine, an intimate gift to myself and my loved one.

Creating my videotaped memoir
The memoir of my work career developed by Bob Becker was interesting on two levels . One, I have been told that I am somewhat of an introvert and do not like to talk about myself. However, my memoir narrative seemed to easily flow out under the orchestrated prompting by Bob The questions asked to me allowed me to discuss my life from my education through my career in a uncomplicated and meaningful manner. The second level of the narrative that surprised me was how much my children, grandchildren and their friends enjoyed the memoir. They were glued to the TV screen during the entire showing of the narrative and after said; WOW.

How I started and what it provided
From the first time I began working on my memoirs with Bob I felt immediately comfortable. He's a good listener and sincere in his interest in what people want to share. He explained that Memoirs need not be in any chronological order. Start with any thought, any place in your lifetime. He encouraged and coached, and just as he said, one memory led to another. How often I regret that I did not ask family members long gone now, how things were in their lifetime, their stories and conversations that cannot be had. I want to share my life’s experiences with my family, letting them know who I am and sharing my perspective on times gone by. I highly recommend documenting and sharing your life’s experiences.  It's a gift to yourself and to others. Thank you Bob.

Creating my memoirs deepened my relationships
Looking back I had always been very hard on myself and felt in many cases I should have done things differently. Documenting chapters of my life helped me realize I had done a far better job than I gave myself credit for and had actually lived a pretty awesome life. Having my family, especially my grand daughter, read my memoirs opened the door to a part of my life that they had never known about and that positively deepened our relationship forever.
I truly know none of this would have been revealed without my coach Bob Becker. My family and I are eternally grateful.

Videotaping my memoirs gave me a sense completeness
Quite unexpectedly an aggressive bout of pneumonia brought me to a hospital. Before my fever fully subsided I thought; Is this it? Will this be where my life ends? And yet I wasn’t frightened. I then thought about my video memoir project that was just about completed and a moment of relief came over me. Thank goodness I had told my story about what was of lasting value in my life; who taught me to love, who looked after me, what is really of importance and what nonsense to let go of. My video memoirs told my family that I love them and that I am grateful for what I learned from them.
This is what I to leave to my children, to my grandchildren, and hopefully to generations to come.

Memoirs have happily changed my life forever
Bob's Memoir offering and process helped me uncover old childhood memories and wounds that had been unavailable to my mind and heart since childhood. Unearthing and writing about these times gave me a voice that had been silenced from me for all those many years. The memoir process has opened my heart, my mind and my soul to infinite possibilities and creativity that have happily changed my life forever.

Creating my memoirs validated my life
The older I get the more I understand; The dwarf sees further than the giant when he has the giants shoulders to mount upon. Through his memoir process I am able to see for miles and miles and miles. I've learned more about myself and as the ancient Greek observed; An un-examed life has small value. Bob brings out the best in everyone. He has helped to validate my life.

Giving memoir's to my son
I have been telling the same stories for many years, about growing up in the 50s and 60s, about the very close family I grew up with and the mostly Italian neighborhood that is gone now. Traveling to Italy and finding family which we have not been in contact with for almost 80 years. Then there is my military service which in retrospect doesn't seem so bad anymore. and have been saying that someday want to write these things down but never have. Bob's coaching has given me the opportunity and motivation to finally do so. I imagine there are those who would rather shut the door on the past and just move on but I am not one of them and for me this process helps save the memories of my life and give them to my son.

Documenting my memoirs is exciting and rewarding
For me, documenting my memoirs have opened many feelings and aspects of my life that had been long forgotten. Sometimes there were pleasant surprises about times long past and sometimes I revealed to myself old disappointments. Bringing out the negative made them not so bad after all. The positives made me feel better about myself.
Sometimes it takes a while for a spark to ignite but when it does it is exciting and rewarding.
